United We Stand, Divided We Fall – A Mantra to Thrive

I strongly believe the adage “United we stand, divided we fall” is the underpinning of women’s ability to thrive.

This maxim is often used in battle. It means if you fight as a group, you have a chance to survive and thrive. If you are scattered among different posts, you could be injured and die.

To me, this mantra clearly states that unless we join together, we are destined to fall apart…on so many levels.

When women unite and act as catalysts for each other’s aspirations – whether those visions are ones of corporate excellence, philanthropic prowess or domestic divaness – magic occurs. We stand up for our greatness. We experience real connection, real power, real love. And we can all use more of that!

When leaders, communities, workplaces and families foster women’s success, women thrive. Everyone thrives. Our world thrives.

You were Born to Thrive

Like many women, I am often challenged by the competing roles and responsibilities in my personal and professional lives – mom, wife, daughter, leader, careerist, volunteer…and let’s not forget unpaid taxi driver! Having burned out once (NOT a fun trip and I advise you NOT to take it) early in my career, I learned some very valuable ways to overcome my exhaustion and prevent myself from experiencing burnout ever again.

I developed the principles, systems and tools I needed to synergize my roles and achieve success + significance + harmony. In other words, I figured out how to thrive! I am passionate about sharing this knowledge with other high-achieving women, both individually and in organizations, so you can be free from the bondage of old approaches that no longer work for us. Find out how to synergize and thrive here.

Being a Catalyst Counts, I Believe

In 2000, I established Lisa Martin International – a coaching and consulting firm that specializes in empowering women to thrive. Through my best-selling book Briefcase Moms and other writings, my peer coaching programs, my private coaching, my self-coaching tools and my interactive experiences (a/k/a retreats, workshops, media), I’ve been privileged to help thousands of executive and professional women (and many men) around the globe shatter their barriers and achieve leadership + life success on their own terms. I’ve also helped many Fortune 500 companies, from Best Buy to HSBC to PwC, retain, develop and advance their high-achieving women. Read rave reviews.

The Truth is: Women + Workplaces = Profit

Study after study has proven that women, particularly those holding senior and board positions, are good for business. Having been a corporate executive (the youngest and only female partner in a national firm) and the founder of three successful companies, I am no stranger to organizational dynamics. As an expert consultant on women + workplaces, I employ strategies and systems to discover, develop and leverage the power of top female talent – and create the right gender mix to optimize corporate performance. I Am a Talker With Talent

I’ve given hundreds of presentations to thousands of individuals around the globe in leading corporations, associations, government agencies, universities and not-for-profits. My talks are practical, passionate, playful. I speak about leadership + life, success + significance + harmony and women + workplaces. Check out my topics, videos and rave reviews.

I’m also a source for editors and writers who seek expert commentary on women’s success. I’ve been profiled and quoted frequently in media such as The Globe and Mail, CBC, CTV and Forbes.com. And, I hosted the TV special Maxed Out on Time. (Do you know hard it is to talk into the camera while ascending a steep flight of concrete stairs and not fall down? LOL) See more here.

Give to Give

I volunteer for many groups that support women. I am a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade Women’s Leadership Circle Advisory Council, a committee member for the YWCA and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and a mentor for the Women in Leadership Foundation. I have also been a volunteer facilitator/mentor for the Women’s Executive Network. And I’ve donated my services to a number of non-profit women’s groups, including Canadian Women in Communications, Wired Women, Dress for Success and Minerva Foundation for BC Women.

So I take sharing with others seriously…and I’m happy to share with you many of my self-coaching tools. Take as little or as much as you need. Find them here.

My Latest Project – A Book for Achievement Addicts Seeking Significance

As a new mom, I wrote Briefcase Moms because I was struggling with how to effectively manage my career and family without losing my mind or other valuable body parts. Its lessons have helped thousands of working moms remain intact.

My next book, Achievement Addicts Anonymous, is about my current quest as an achievement addict to unearth my heart’s desire. (Yep, only an over-achiever would want to do more than thrive – I am seeking the secret wishes of my soul.) My hope is that my book will empower thousands (maybe even millions) of weary, ever-so-weary women to rediscover who they truly are and what feels natural, nearly effortless and overflowing with meaning. Does the need to understand what is truly significant quietly pull you? If you answered yes, you may wish to read the book’s introduction here.
